Resource Groups
Resource Groups define a production capability shared by one or more individual Resources. They are the scheduling requirement used in Smart Quote rules and on Sales Quote and Sales Order line items. For example, WELDING can contain several qualified people or welding stations.
How a Group Becomes a Scheduled Resource
Resource Groups keep configurable work independent of a particular person or machine until Production Order creation:
- A Smart Quote rule attaches a group to a task with
.AddResourceGroup("WELDING", 1m). - The group requirement travels unchanged through the Sales Quote and Sales Order line item.
- When Velosity creates the Production Order, it records the group requirement and selects an active Resource that belongs to that group. The group quantity becomes that Resource's requested usage on the Production Order task.
- The Scheduler schedules the concrete Resource, using its capacity, working hours, and calendar exceptions.
If a referenced group does not exist, or it has no active member, Production Order creation records an error instead of substituting an unrelated resource. Keep each group populated with at least one active eligible Resource.
Why Use Resource Groups?
In many manufacturing environments, multiple machines or personnel can perform the same type of work. Grouping them keeps the configured router independent of a specific assignment:
- Configuration safety: A rule refers to a durable capability such as
WELDING, rather than a person who may leave or a machine that may be unavailable. - Cross-training and redundancy: Multiple Resources can be eligible for the same group, so the group remains valid as staffing and equipment change.
- Clear scheduling handoff: The Production Order retains the group requirement for traceability and passes the selected Resource and requested usage to the Scheduler.
List View
The List view shows all configured Resource Groups and provides a quick count of how many tasks or resources are currently assigned to each.
Detail View
The Detail view allows you to manage the specific members of a group. You can see which Resources are included and which Task definitions this group is authorized to perform.
Configuration
Adding a Resource Group
When creating a group, give it a descriptive name that reflects the capability (e.g., WELDING_PRIMARY or ASSEMBLY_TEAM_A).
Editing a Resource Group
You can add or remove resources from a group as shop-floor capacity changes. Only active group members are eligible when a new Production Order is created. Existing Production Orders retain their selected Resource; review and reassign those orders if a staffing or equipment change affects them.
